Who we are

Urban / Rural Rides is a registered charity powered by volunteers created in response to an ever-growing need in our rural communities for safe, affordable, reliable transportation. We offer safe, affordable, and reliable transportation services (primarily for medical appointments and food bank access) to seniors and low-income families, particularly in areas where access to transportation is limited.

Ongoing Need

Volunteer Drivers Urgently Needed for Dialysis Clients

Volunteer Drivers are urgently needed to transport some of our clients for dialysis appointments. These clients living in the rural area have no other means of finding transportation and depend on our service. We are in urgent need of volunteer drivers from the following areas: Shediac, Murray Corner, Cap Pele, Petitcodiac, Havelock, and Riverside Albert. If you live in one of these areas and can give us a few hours a week to help us out in this urgent situation please contact our Ride Coordinator at 962-3073 or [email protected]. All volunteers drivers are reimbursed at 0.50/km from their home and return.

What is Urban/Rural Rides

Urban/Rural Rides is a volunteer driving program whose mission is to provide affordable and accessible transportation to area residents to help reduce isolation and increase independence for those who do not have access to transportation.

How does this transportation services work?

Urban/Rural Rides clients call the Ride Coordinator for your region forty-eight (48) hours in advance of a drive needed and we arrange a volunteer driver to go to their door, drive them to their destination and subsequently back to their pick-up destination.

Who is Eligible to be an Urban/RuralRides Client?

Any individual over the age of 18 can become a client in order to access affordable transportation for medical appointments and access to foodbanks. Clients under the age of 18 may also be eligible. Please contact your region’s coordinator for more details.

What is the cost?

Registration is FREE and ride fees are based on the distance travelled. Urban/Rural Rides offers subsidized rates. Accumulated fees are invoiced monthly and are paid directly to the organization, not to the volunteer driver.
