I’m Garth Zwicker, volunteer driver for the Tantramar and area. Mostly retired I always have some sort of involvement in the community.

Late last year my wife suggested that I might like to be a volunteer driver, and I agreed that it was a good idea. My first drive was in January this year, and I cannot describe how much I enjoy it. The clients are very appreciative, and I truly enjoy the conversations we have. Sometimes I tell them something they may not be aware of, and many times I learn something new…every day is an adventure!

My wife and I like to travel, so we have visited a lot of the Atlantic provinces, as well as a couple of trips to Europe. I love hearing about my clients’ experiences and backgrounds.

Over the last 11 years I have facilitated the creation of about 250 banners for past Veterans of the area. As it turns out, Sackville was a major contributor of volunteers in WWll, but there are also banners for Veterans who served in WWl, Korea, and NATO. These banners are put up on poles in mid-late October and taken down shortly after Remembrance Day. I have also collected stories from as many families as possible and, along with Tantramar Heritage Trust, have compiled a book, which will be released in October. So, through a recent drive, I met the client’s husband who teaches history at MtA, and he asked if I would be interested in speaking to his students.

Lots to say about the URR organization; they provide a valuable service, helping lots of people get to appointments that they may otherwise not be able to. There is no stress placed on me to take a drive if I am unable to, and my Ride Coordinator, Jason is very supportive.
