My name is Barry Gill. I live in Miramichi in the area I grew up in. I guess in one way or another I have been volunteering or been volunteered for as long as I can remember. It was something that our parents taught us. You treated people with respect and kindness and helped out whatever way you could. Shoveling our neighbours driveways or helping them out in hay season are some of my earliest memories of this. I moved up to Thunder Bay Ontario and when I had kids of my own I started volunteering for the organizations they were associated with. I coordinated a mini youth soccer program for 17 years and the last few years my 3 sons helped out. While in Thunder Bay I worked as a courier for Purolator Courier Inc. I really loved meeting new people and interacting with my regular customers. After transferring “back home” and retiring after another 7 years here with Purolator, I started looking for something to do in my spare time. Gardening was not high on my list of hobbies! I signed up to volunteer with Miramichi Volunteer Inc and about a year later, started driving for Greater Miramichi Transportation which is now part of Urban/Rural Rides. I love it!!! It gets me up and active each day and I get the interaction with others that I had when with Purolator. It also alignes with what my parents taught me. Respect and kindness for all.
Barry
