James (Jim) Brown

I am honoured to be a part of the Urban/ Rural Rides Board, currently serving as your President. I have been involved with URR from the beginning and have served in several positions over the past decade or so. I am also one of the volunteer drivers, who make what we do possible.
Volunteering is in my blood, so to say. I have been a volunteer with Saint John Ambulance for 28 years. Over those years I have achieved Instructor Trainer status,
First Aid, MFR, Mental Health Awareness, Spinal Immobilization, Control the Bleed Instructor. Recipient of the Serving Brother Award and years of service medal.
We started up the Moncton Community Service Unit 275 in 2022. I serve as the Staffing Officer and MFR Instructor for the Unit. We provide medical coverage at any large gatherings such as stockcar races, speed skating tournaments, baseball tournaments,
ringette tournaments, concerts, etc.
The federal government mandated 24 Emergency Response Units throughout Canada to be developed about 3 years ago. I am the NB provincial ERU Commander. We provide medical service during any manmade or natural disasters anywhere in our province or throughout Canada when called upon to deploy.
I am a retired paramedic, which has been my passion for over 28 years (retired from Ambulance NB in 2023). I live with my lovely wife, Beatrice (Bea), my brother Don and 3 cats in River Glade NB and I think I work harder now than when I was working on the Ambulance. I enjoy camping, hiking, swimming with my wife Bea, woodworking, when I have the time, and obviously volunteering.
During my career as a paramedic, I have witnessed first hand the need that exists in both the rural and urban centres of New Brunswick for transportation services. The need is greater than most people can realize or even imagine. I felt the need to do something and help those that are in need.
My career as a paramedic continues at a private clinic in Dieppe; Medicalux Private Care, and at the O2 Hyperbaric Center with various roles there, such as Audiometric Technician, Noise Level Technician, Dosimeter testing, Hyperbaric Technician and various health and wellness clinics around the province.
I urge those that know of someone that has the time to volunteer in any respect to do so. Urban/Rural Rides is always looking for volunteer drivers that can offer even a few hours a week, more if you have the time. Please consider making a difference in someone’s life and try volunteering with us.
Stay Safe,
Jim Brown

President
